Pay Per Click Marketing – A Strategy For Success
Pay per click marketing is many people’s first choice for a way to make money on the internet. The big problem is, they very often find that they are losing money, rather than making it. So they give up in despair, not necessarily because they are lacking in perseverance, but because they feel they cannot afford to continue. Yet many others do make an excellent income. The difference is that these people use the right marketing ideas to ensure that their ppc advertising is effective.
The best known form of pay per click marketing is Google Adwords, although most of the big search engines run pay per click programs. Adwords are the small sponsored ads that appear on any results page. When you set up your adwords campaign, you decide how much you will pay when somebody clicks – for instance 5 cents per click. This is your “bid”. The higher you bid, the nearer the top your ad will appear, although your ad will also be rewarded for a good click-through rate.
There is quite a simple reason why many people’s internet advertising campaigns fail to make a profit. Either they spend too much money, or they do not spend the money in the right way. There is one golden rule you have to remember for ppc advertising – that “ppc” stands for “pay per click” – that is, you pay every time somebody clicks. If that click does not result in a sale, you have lost that money. If the amount you make in sales does not exceed what you pay for your clicks, you will continue to lose money.
So what does this mean for your marketing strategy? It certainly does not mean that you should try to get as many people as possible clicking on your ads. This is a mistake that a lot of beginners make. It does mean that you have to make your ads as targeted as possible, so that you ensure that the people who click on them are the people who are looking for exactly what you are selling. Make the wording absolutely specific so that it is clear what you are offering – some people even include the price, to deter people who do not want to pay that amount. In addition, use a different ad for each small keyword group or “adgroup”. Avoid the mistake of putting too many keywords in ad adgroup – the smaller the group, the more precisely targeted the ad will be.
Pay per click marketing is not as easy as it may first appear. Everybody loses money to begin with, but with the right kind of ppc management it is certainly possible to succeed.
